Comeback Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his first trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface after that period of 2023.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on court had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour title, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 initial opportunities in a close third set before the Russian broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
