Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior political figure said the vandalism left him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
